The Cx of the Beetle, measured in the wind tunnel of the Polytechnic of Stoccarda on the final prototype, measured just 0,385. This datum increased to 0,41 in the mass-production, but in any case it remained an exceptionally low value for the epoch (we were in '38!); you have to think that the aerodynamic Lancia Aprilia hardly reached the 0,47 (0,44 a Fiat127 and 0,41 the first model of the Golf). The datum was also confirmed by the particularly low value of the absorbed power to travel to 100 km/h: only 15 CV. To make a comparison you have to think that a modern Volkswagen Pole first series absorbs 17,2 CV at the same speed. Anyway, you have to notice that the aesthetic modifications introduced in the '67 (squared bumpers and vertical headlights) made the Cd of the Beetle meaningfully worse and in the last models it appeared to be equal to 0,48.

We don't know if Porsche knew if it had intentionally planned or if it is simply (and incredibly) a fortuitous case, at any rate that Beetle...... floats!!! In '63 two Bolognese fans crossed the Strait of Messina for a joke, taking 38 minutes to cover the 7 km of sea that separates Sicily from Calabrian coast.The Beetle achieved a speed of 4 nautical miles to 1800 revs per minute (more details about this adventure). But the "nautical" performances of the Beetle are not restricted to this one. In the Irish sea the descendant of the Vichings Malc Buchanan set off from the Isle of Man and got to the English County of Cumberland after a voyage of 59 km covered in 7 hours and 30 minute! Other voyages took place in the Bay of Hong-Kong, on Michigan Lake and in the Straits of Singapore.

A fascinating photograph of Adolf Hitler in political dress in conversation with Professor Ferdinand Porsche, surrounded by NSDAP and SS elite, as they examine a model of the new VolksWagen Beetle.

The German caption loosely translated reads: "Dr. Porsche, the technical designer, shows Der Fuhrer and the German people the first model". On the side of the wooden shipping crate, you can clearly read on the label "Adolf Hitler Berlin".

Hitler told Professor Porsche: "It should look like a beetle, you've only got to look to nature to find out what streamlining is".

While having lunch in a restaurant, Hitler drew this sketch of his "VW Beetle " on a napkin. The legend was born.




What Hitler wanted in his "People's Car": is that it should have a top speed of 100km/h (62mph), a fuel consumption of 7 litres per 100km (approx 42mpg), it should be able to carry 2 adults and 3 children, and it must be air-cooled and above all should cost no more than RM 1,000 (Reichsmarks) about $200.00 at that time. Porsche's first reaction was to turn the idea down, however he accepted and it was allotted the Type 60 number in his design register and the first working drawings were dated 17th April, 1934, 3 days before Der Führer's birthday. And so automotive history was made!

In late July 2003, VolksWagen finally ceased production of the Beetle. They had produced 21,529,464 units, making it the most successful car in automotive history. Not bad for an idea that was first scribbled down on a napkin 70 years ago?

"LIPANJ 22 SVIJETSKI DAN VW BUBE

Od 1995. godine svake godine 22. lipanj je "SVIJETSKI DAN VW BUBE", dan koji obilježava taj dragi, šarmantan i komotni automobil.

Zašto Lipanj, 22 ?
Iz sasvim normalnih razloga , tog datuma 1934 godine , potpisan je ugovor između GERMAN AUTOMOBILISTIC INDUSTRY NATIONAL ASSOCIATION i Dr. FERDINAND PORSCHE-a. Tim ugovorom tvrtka ENG.h.c.Ferdinand Porsche GmbH preuzela je proizvodnju Volkswagena , te proizvela njen prototip 10 mjeseci nakon tog datuma. To je bio dan kad je započela saga o VW BUBI , dan kad je sve započelo.

Što se podrazumijeva s tim datumom?
Imati fiksni datum koji će obilježavati najbolje prodavani auto na svijetu , auto koji je odabran kao AUTO STOLJEČA , te auto kojeg su odabrali tisuće ljubitelja da ga imaju u svojoj privatnoj kolekciji.

Zašto se je taj dan proglašen na 5-om Internacionalnom skupu VW u Bad Cambergu?
Svatko tko je prisustvovao tom događaju , ali i onaj koji nije prisustvovao , zna za važnost na svjetskoj sceni ljubitelja VW BUBA. Taj događaj , bez dvojbe je jedan od najvažnijih na sceni VW - na , te magazini iz cijelog svijeta pratili su taj događaj popratnim člancima o tom događaju. Svi ti faktori pokazuju da Bad Cambreg događaj je idealni zaslon bio za lansiranje i promoviranje "SVIJETSKI DAN VW BUBE".

To neće biti formalni dan . Neće trebati homologacija nadležnih institucija. Prije će to biti dan za sjećanje , da bi se prisjetili nas i naših ljubimaca na četiri kotača , te razlogu našeg hobija. Vaša podrška i vaše slaganje oko odabira ovog dana bila je više nego dovoljna da taj datum pretvorimo u realnost."
