How much HP can a VW Transaxle take? I'm getting ready to put a subaru ej20 in a bug pan kit car, but aftermarket places that I'm trying to buy transaxles from tell me that an IRS won't take 240 horses. They say I'll have better luck with a swing axle. I can see where that could be true. I was wondering if anyone can list the pros & cons of swing axle and of IRS. If you're wondering about the use of the car; it will mostly be street and some drag. Thanks for your say. FES

True. IRS gives you better road handling which is recquired for narrow and courvy European roads. On the other side swing axle is much stronger structure and it can take more abuse. Down side of the swing axle is rather poor road handling and uneven tire wear, but its perfect for street use and drag strip. btw road handling with the sw. axle can be improved by putting rear sway bar. Hope this helps.
